2 Kayakers Rescued From Potomac River In Maryland

SANDY HOOK, Md. (AP) -- Two kayakers have been rescued from the Potomac River in Washington County.

Maryland State Police said Monday that the man and woman called for help after their kayaks overturned in rapids on Sunday afternoon in Sandy Hook, about 15 miles southwest of Frederick.

Maryland State Police used a helicopter to rescue the pair by lowering rescue baskets to the kayakers, who climbed in. They were flown to a waiting ambulance for further evaluation. They were not seriously injured.

Police say the kayakers were experienced.
