2 Hospitalized After Crashing Car During Police Chase

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police say two men are recovering and awaiting charges after their vehicle crashed into a carport during a chase in western Maryland.

The Cumberland Times-News reports that the Baltimore men remain hospitalized under guard Wednesday after the incident Tuesday near Cumberland.

Police say troopers stopped the Ford Taurus along westbound Interstate 68 for suspected speeding. A trooper smelled marijuana and asked the driver to step out, but police say the car took off instead.

The chase went through Cumberland along Alternate U.S. 40, then then onto Route 36, where the vehicle crashed in the unincorporated community of Corriganville.

Police say they recovered 75 vials of crack cocaine that the suspects threw out of the car, plus more than $500 in cash and about $200 in counterfeit money.
