2 Charged In Stabbing Death In Cumberland

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Allegany County law enforcers have charged two people in the fatal stabbing of a man who was found unconscious along state Route 51 just south of Cumberland.

Thirty-two-year-old Jason Wilt of Keyser and 27-year-old Erika Dersin of Ridgeley were arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder and other offenses, according to a news release from the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit.

Authorities say on Jan. 27, 25-year-old Rhyshon Smith of Baltimore was found unconscious and bleeding from a stab wound to his chest. He died that night at a hospital.

Police say Wilt was the last person with Smith before he was found unconscious, but officers did not offer a motive for the slaying.
