2 Arrested In Slayings Of Elkton Couple In Burglary

ELKTON, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say two people have been arrested in the slayings of a couple during a burglary at their Elkton home.

The Cecil County Sheriff's Office reported Saturday that 25-year-old Derrick Carroll and 27-year-old Ellen Lough are in custody and have been charged with first-degree murder.

Lough was arrested Friday night in Cecil County. Carroll is in custody in New Jersey after being arrested by U.S. Marshals.

Seventy-nine-year-old Earl Loomis and his wife, 76-year-old Maryann Loomis, were found dead from asphyxiation inside their home on Wednesday. Authorities believe they were slain on Sunday.

Lt. Michael Holmes, a sheriff's office spokesman, says Carroll, Lough and their accomplices knew the victims and that Carroll had been planning to rob them for years. Credit cards, cash and guns were stolen from the home.
