ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The 18th annual Polar Bear Plunge is taking place at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis.

The event going on Saturday was originally set for Jan. 25 but it was postponed because of below-freezing temperatures and high winds.

Some 5,000 people are expected to take a dip in the Chesapeake Bay to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland. The event began in 1997 and has raised millions of dollars for Special Olympics Maryland.
