18-Year-Old Cyclist Dies After Being Hit By Vehicle

PARSONSBURG, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a Salisbury teen has died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Wicomico County.

Sgt. Jenean Lawson of the Maryland State Police identified the bicyclist on Tuesday as 18-year-old Jacob Schertz of Salisbury. She says the investigation of Wednesday's crash near Parsonsburg is still ongoing.

Pamela Schertz tells the Daily Times of Salisbury, that her son, who worked as a lifeguard at the Frontier Town campground in West Ocean City, had recently graduated from Wicomico High School. He planned to attend the University of Maryland in the fall and study mechanical engineering.
