BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A 35-year-old man who was convicted of child abuse in his son's death has been arrested and charged in the death of his girlfriend's 18-month-old toddler.

According to our media partner The Baltimore Sun, Francois Browne spent nearly three years in prison for the death of his 7-month-old son in 2012.

Charging documents state Browne was the only one with the baby on New Year's Eve in 2012. He reportedly told police he played with 7-month-old Kendall Browne until the two went to sleep, and then woke up and found the baby not breathing. That's when he told police he tried to perform CPR.

Kendall spent several days on life support before dying, marking the first homicide of 2013 in Baltimore. Court documents show he suffered severe head trauma and bleeding of the brain.

Baltimore Police said officers and paramedics responded to the 2800 block of Forest Glen Road on July 18 around 9:30 p.m. for a call of an unresponsive child.

Zaray Gray was taken to Sinai Hospital where the toddler was pronounced dead a short time later.

The toddler was in Browne's care, and when the mother arrived home, she found Zaray unresponsive.

Detectives were called to the scene and took over the investigation.

Hospital personnel told police there were visible injuries on Zaray's body. A postmortem X-ray showed a broken bone.

Police took Browne into custody on July 20 and charged him with first-degree murder.

He's currently being held at Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center.
