17-Year-Old Shot, Robbed On Bike Path Near Waldorf School

WALDORF, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a 17-year-old boy has been shot and robbed of his bicycle in Waldorf.

The Charles County Sheriff's Department says the boy was shot in the upper leg on a bike path Tuesday afternoon near Eva Turner Elementary School.

Police say two suspects approached the boy and demanded his bike. One suspect pulled out a gun and shot the boy before fleeing with the victim's bicycle.

The boy walked to a road and flagged down the driver of an empty school bus. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At nearby schools, students were directed to temporarily "shelter in place" while authorities searched for the suspects.

Investigators say they don't know whether the boy was targeted or a random victim.
