13-Year-Old Girl Charged With Setting Fire In Maryland House

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (AP) -- The State Fire Marshal's Office says a 13-year-old girl has been charged with arson after a fire was set in a house in St. Mary's County.

Firefighters called investigators after putting out two fires in a two-story, single family home in Lexington Park Tuesday night, the Fire Marshal's Office said in a news release. Authorities say nine people were in the home when the second fire was discovered, but no one was hurt. Damage was estimated at $8,000.

Investigators say the homeowner reported putting out other small fires in the same room but did not call 911.

Police say the 13-year-old did not live at the home, but was a guest of the homeowner's children.

The girl was charged with arson. She was taken to a juvenile detention center.
