Mom, 25, Charged For Allowing Daughter, 11, To Drive Alone

HOUSTON (AP) — A 25-year-old Houston-area woman accused of allowing her 11-year-old daughter to drive her 10-year-old brother home has been charged with two counts of child endangerment.

Police pulled the girl over in Pasadena for driving 49 mph in a 35 mph zone. There was no adult in the SUV.

Police spokesman Vance Mitchell says the girl said it wasn't the first time her mother had allowed her drive, but that this was the only time alone with her brother.

Maria DeJesus Lopez, of Pasadena, is free on $3,000 bond after a court appearance Monday. Court records show she doesn't have an attorney.

Prosecutors say Lopez told a relative that it was all right to let her daughter drive herself and her brother home.
