1 in 4 Beltway Trucks Inspected Placed Out Of Service
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Authorities say more than one in four of the commercial vehicles inspected in Prince George's County during a surprise round of inspections were ordered off the road for violating of safety, weight or equipment regulations.
Maryland State Police said in a news release that more than 400 vehicles were diverted from the Capital Beltway on Tuesday, with 113 of them failing the subsequent inspections, including one vehicle that was 12 tons overweight.
Authorities say 27 of the vehicles were taken out of service for tire violations.
State police say all the violations had to be fixed before a truck could return to the highway.
The vehicles were inspected at a parking lot at FedEx Field.
