1 Dead, 1 Injured In Jessup Shooting; Suspect At Large
HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- The manhunt continues after a deadly Easter Sunday shooting in Howard County.
Ava-joye Burnett has more on the truck stop shooting that occurred in broad daylight.
The Easter Sunday shooting sent a 57-year-old Baltimore man to Shock Trauma in critical condition---he has since been upgraded to stable condition. The other victim died before police even made it on scene.
Unexpected chaos around 1 p.m. Sunday. A man shot two people at a truck stop in Jessup off Assateague Drive. One victim was in such bad shape, he had to be flown to Shock Trauma. The other man was dead on the spot.
By the time police showed up on the scene, the shooter was nowhere to be found and that kicked off an intense search.
A helicopter was brought in and roads were shut down. Police were all over but the suspect vanished. Police say he's an Asian male who was wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans.
"At this time, we believe this was an isolated incident. We do not believe the community at large is in danger," said Mary T. Phelan, Howard County Police.
Police have expanded their search for the suspect but they won't say how far. They're also trying to figure out why he shot the two men in broad daylight.
Some truckers had just attended an Easter service. They, too, have questions about what happened.
"Nobody expects to basically walk out of church and run into a dead body," said truck driver Edward Winrow.
Police have not released either victim's name.
Police want to stress that at this moment, the suspect is not a threat to the community. If you know who he is or have any information, please call 911.
