We've Lost Our Pickles

(AP)
My Very Early Mother Just Served Us Nine Pickles. That's how I learned the names of the nine planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) we used to believe made up our solar system. Apparently we were about as right in that as those fellows who used to think the sun revolved around the earth. Well, maybe we weren't all that far off, we just have to get rid of one little planet. Pluto has now been demoted from planet status and while the move doesn't shake the foundations of scientific thought, it does remind us that these things do evolve from time to time. What we think we know sometimes isn't what we know at all. I suppose My Very Early Mother will Just have to Serve Us Nuts from now on:
Leading astronomers have declared that Pluto is no longer a planet in approving new guidelines that downsize the solar system from nine planets to eight.

After a tumultuous week of clashing over the essence of the cosmos, the International Astronomical Union stripped Pluto of the planetary status it has held since its discovery in 1930.
