Sherman Seems To Compete

California Rep Brad Sherman, a leading opponent of the bill on the Dem side, tells The Crypt he thinks it will pass.

"I don't think it will pass by a giant margin, but it won't fail. I wouldnt bet against this bill passing," he said.

In a sign that he sees the struggle coming to an end, he had some valedictory words for leadership. "I have tremendous faith and respect for Barney Frank and Pelosi and leadership," he said. Frank "really believes this bill is necessary for America and everything he does is motivated by that belief."

As for the consequences, he said, "At the very least, we'll stop having Paulson telling people to panic."
