Google Maps for Mobile Gets Better at Finding Businesses

google-maps-for-mobile-improved.jpgI've long been a fan of Google Maps for Mobile, but always wished it could give me directions to a local business if I entered just the business name as the destination. Well, my prayers have been answered: Google Maps for Mobile now supports business names when looking up directions.

For example, suppose you want to navigate to the nearest Starbucks. Just tap that in as your destination and presto: GMM gives you the route (complete with mass-transit directions if available).

Because this is a server-side change, current GMM users don't have to install anything new: The improvement is already available in the app. If you don't already have GMM, you can (and should) get it by pointing your phone's browser to google.com/gmm.

Leave it to Google to make an insanely useful app even more insanely useful. Google Maps for Mobile is a must-have, especially if you're the type of person who gets lost in their driveway -- like Dave. [via the Google Mobile Blog]
