Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol has made headlines as a teen mother. Now she'll be making her acting debut to bring more attention to teen motherhood.

Bristol Palin will play herself on the ABC Family television show "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," the network announced.

"I am thrilled to be on this show and to be part of a program that educates teens and young adults about the consequences of teen pregnancy," Palin said in a statement.

Palin was first put under the spotlight when it was revealed during her mother's vice presidential candidacy that she was pregnant. The Palin family has since feuded publicly with the father of Palin's child, Levi Johnston.

Palin has nevertheless embraced the spotlight to advocate for teen abstinence and speak out on behalf of her little brother, Trig, who has Down Syndrome.
