New Obama Ad Hits McCain On Economy

Barack Obama may be spending this week on the beach rather than the campaign trail, but his campaign is going hard on the attack with a new TV ad slamming John McCain on the economy.

The new ad, "Book", continues the Obama campaign's push to tie McCain to the Bush administration, saying the Republican has supported the president "95 percent of the time."

The ad is set to run in no less than 16 battleground states, including four that have gone solidly Republican in recent elections: Alaska, Montana, North Carolina and North Dakota.

The Obama spot also links the war in Iraq to American economic woes, saying McCain wants to "keep spending $10 billion a month for the war on Iraq, while the Iraqis sell oil for record prices."

Al Gore Issues Major Energy Challenge

By: SilentPatriot

Former Vice President Al Gore delivered a major speech Thursday on US energy policy in which he challenged all Americans to confront the crisis head on and wean itself off fossil fuels in the next 10 years.

There are times in the history of our nation when our very way of life depends upon dispelling illusions and awakening to the challenge of a present danger. In such moments, we are called upon to move quickly and boldly to shake off complacency, throw aside old habits and rise, clear-eyed and alert, to the necessity of big changes. Those who, for whatever reason, refuse to do their part must either be persuaded to join the effort or asked to step aside. This is such a moment.

%u201CToday I challenge our nation to commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years. This goal is achievable, affordable and transformative. It represents a challenge to all Americans %u2013 in every walk of life: to our political leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, engineers, and to every citizen.%u201D

Senator Obama responds:

%u201CFor decades, Al Gore has challenged the skeptics in Washington on climate change and awakened the conscience of a nation to the urgency of this threat. I strongly agree with Vice President Gore that we cannot drill our way to energy independence, but must fast-track investments in renewable sources of energy like solar power, wind power and advanced biofuels, and those are the investments I will make as President. It%u2019s a strategy that will create millions of new jobs that pay well and cannot be outsourced, and one that will leave our children a world that is cleaner and safer.%u201D

Obama slams McCain over oil company tax breaks

By MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer 9 minutes ago

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama seized on a record oil company profit to argue that rival John McCain offers only tax breaks for Big Oil and "short-term gimmicks" to consumers struggling with soaring gasoline prices.

The Illinois senator quickly incorporated news of Exxon Mobil''s nearly $12 billion quarterly profit into his remarks at a town hall meeting here.

"No U.S. corporation ever made that much in a quarter," Obama said. "But while Big Oil is making record profits, you are paying record prices at the pump and our economy is leaving working people behind."

McCain''s response, Obama said, is to propose a corporate tax plan that would give "$4 billion each year to the oil companies, including $1.2 billion for Exxon Mobil alone" and a gas tax holiday that Obama said would only "pad oil company profits and save you %u2014 at best %u2014 half a tank of gas" over an entire summer.

In recent days, Obama has complained that McCain is offering little of substance to voters and does little more than attack.

"All those negative ads he''s running won''t do a thing to lower your gas prices or lift up the debate in this country," Obama said.

Oil Industry Floods McCain With Cash After Offshore Drilling Reversal

By Matthew Mosk
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, July 27, 2008; Page A10

Campaign contributions from oil industry executives to Sen. John McCain rose dramatically in the last half of June, after the senator from Arizona made a high-profile split with environmentalists and reversed his opposition to the federal ban on offshore drilling.

Oil and gas industry executives and employees donated $1.1 million to McCain last month -- three-quarters of which came after his June 16 speech calling for an end to the ban -- compared with $116,000 in March, $283,000 in April and $208,000 in May.

Bull *****! You can post all the tax analysis KRAP talking point idiocy you want to!

IN MY WHOLE ADULT LIFE I HAVE NEVER HAD A TAX CUT NO MATTER WHO PROMISED IT, NOR WHO WAS IN THE WHITE HOUSE!

When you get your arse back into reality instead of la la land, maybe you''''ll open your eyes!

There are lots and lots of really serious concerns about Obscamma other than his frigging TINKERBELLE tax plan!

Priceless!

90% of Americans will pay less income tax under Obama than McCain

Today, CNN posted an article online summarizing the Tax Policy center''s report comparing John McCain and Barack Obama''s proposed tax plans. It is available here. The numbers are remarkable, but CNN failes to notice the obvious punchline: more than 85% of Americans will pay less in taxes under Obama than McCain.

And then you act like these tax cuts of Obscamma''s are actually going to take place!

Geezus H. Keeerissst! The government can''t live on NO TAXES! And it can''t CUT taxes on billions of people, and raise taxes on 50,000 or so and survive!

The second absurdity is that Obscamma is going to tax the hand that feeds is campaign donations!

Let the personal attacks begin!

Note the use of the Rove playbook:

Attack the messenger i stead of the message. It''s all so predictable now, rather than directly addressing or rebutting the charges, the wingnuts break out literally the exact same three ad hominems in defense of the Great Leader:

You are a liar (or morin)!

You are disgruntled!

And my personal favorite: You are a liberal!!!

First alternate: He''s just trying to sell books!

John McCain lies about taxes

According to analysis of the McCain tax plan in comparison with the Obama tax plan by the Tax Policy Center, recent McCain commercials that insist Obama wants to raise "your" taxes are lies.

Unless the ads are targeted for the very tiny group of the richest Americans. But that doesn''''t seem likely does it?

According to the analysis Obama''''s plan would cut taxes for everyone making $227,000 or less.

That is me and most every person and working family.

In fact, Obama''''s tax cuts for people who make less than $112,000 would be higher than those proposed by McCain.

The overwhelming majority of people in the country would see tax cuts under an Obama administration of around $600, for the lowest income tax payers to $2800 for people earning under $227,000. I think the Obama campaign pegs the average at about $1,000 per person.

What is the difference between the two plans? Obama would raise taxes on the very wealthiest people. People with incomes between $227,000 and $603,000 would pay $12 more. That''''s three cheeseburgers. And the biggest increases would be imposed on the very richest, most successful people.

McCain, on the other hand, would give tax breaks to the very richest people equal to or greater than than the median income of working Americans. Up to $269,000 in tax breaks per individual. The average worker has to work about 5 years for the same amount.

The difference is in priorities. McCain would simply continue Bush''''s tax relief for the people who need it the least while starving the federal budget and cutting back on public services. All while waging a $10 billion per month war in Iraq for more oil and more profits for McCain''''s other constituency: Big Oil.

Obama would hand over US homeland security to his Muslim brothers in the Middle East. By nominating Obama, the radicals who run the Democrat Party have shown their true colors. Many traditional Democrats will not vote for Obama. Wait and see.

The fact is that decent Americans would be unable to bring themselves to vote for Obama.

Obama is a Muslim
Obama is a racist
Obama is a hate monger
Obama is just an *uppity* celebrity

The intent of all these false accusations is to raise doubt about the candidate. See the Karl Rove playbook - when you have no record to run on start making baseless accusations of your opponent - see also character assassination. If a person is uninformed these statements create doubts about the candidate and they are more likely to support the familiar, "more of the same" candidate; that is why they say negative ads work.

This is my take:

On the far right you have two groups: the uninformed (blissfully ignorant) right wing authoritarian followers (sheep) that need to be told who to hate and who to fear. Proof, they actually believe the above smears. As the old saying goes, you can fool some of the people ALL of the time...

And then you have the propagandist (sheep herders) that actually do pay attention and know that Obama is not a Muslim, know that Bush, Cheney and McCain are in the pockets of Big Oil, know that climate change is real, know that the Republicans have been stonewalling in Congress, know that Rove belongs in jail for multiple crimes against this country, know that the Iraq war was and still is about oil, know billions are being siphoned off in Iraq by war profiteering contractors, know that we have the most unequal distribution of wealth and income of any major nation in the industrialized world and yet they continue to stand before the American people and state otherwise (lie) while knowing the actual truth all along.

Who is a greater threat to America today?

McCain: "In The 21st Century Nations Don''t Invade Other Nations"

August 13, 2008

Speaking to reporters about the situation in Georgia, Sen. John McCain denounced the aggressive posture of Russia by claiming that:"in the 21st century nations don''t invade other nations."

It was the type of foreign policy rhetorical blunder that has regularly plagued the McCain campaign and could have diplomatic ripples as well. Certainly the comment was meant in innocence. But for those predisposed to the notion that the U.S. is an increasingly arrogant international actor, the suggestion by a presidential candidate that, in this day and age, countries don''t invade one another -- when the U.S. is occupying two foreign nations -- does little to alleviate that negative perception.

There is another, less controversial undertone to McCain''s remark. Since the Georgia-Russia hostilities have commenced, parallels have been drawn to U.S. intervention in Iraq. The two scenarios are highly different in all intents and purposes, both due to regional significance and the longstanding territorial disputes. But some still would dispute the idea, as McCain seemed to imply, that America''s involvement in Iraq is any less an invasion than Russia''s involvement in Georgia.

Later in his press conference, McCain was asked to address how the Georgian crisis -- which has ceded to a tenuous ceasefire -- was amplified on the campaign trail. The presumptive Republican nominee demurred from attempts to get him to engage with Barack Obama.

"This isn''t a time for partisanship and sniping between campaigns," he said. "This is about hundreds of thousand of individuals whose lives are being taken... Maybe later on in the campaign let''s have a back and forth about whose comments and statements... but now lets devote all our efforts to resolving a situation that is fraught with tragedy."

A subsequent questioner asked McCain whether this non-partisan window applied to Sen. Joseph Lieberman as well, who, at a townhall on Tuesday, suggested that Barack Obama had not always "put his country first." McCain''s answer was classically evasive.

"Let me respond by just saying that I think that whatever we think at the moment that we can all reserve that for a future time. And I think that judgments will be made about how we handled this situation and approached the situation in Iraq and how much experience knowledge and background means in selecting who should be the next commander in chief, all I can say is there will be plenty of time for that and we can move forward. "
