Why Gmail is Still Better than Yahoo! Mail

As you may have noticed, I'm a fan of Gmail. Has that changed now that Yahoo! Mail has announced that it is offering unlimited storage to users starting in May? Nope. While I may keep a Yahoo! account on standby in case someone comes up with a genius way to use it as an online hard drive (like the application I previously described that allows you to drag and drop to Gmail), right now there are a couple of major flaws with Yahoo! Mail that make it unfit to be your primary mailer.

First and foremost, unless you're willing to pay for premium service, Yahoo! charges you for POP and forwarding services. That means that if something else that's more useful comes along, it's going to be a pain in the butt to get your mail out of Yahoo!'s hands. Also, without some wrangling, you can't have a bunch of Yahoo! accounts (spam accounts, signup accounts, work accounts, etc.) that all forward to the same place for easy sorting.

Additionally, the word "unlimited" is kind of deceptive. As many folks will undoubtedly point out, it's really hard to use up two-plus gigs of space, even if you're constantly mailing big attachments back and forth. More importantly, Yahoo! (like Gmail) only allows attachments up to 10 MB, meaning that you'll still have to use other (often better) ways to share large files with colleagues.
