Julio Acevedo told the Daily News of New York that he was fleeing gunshots at the time of the crash early Sunday in Brooklyn.

He says he fled because he feared for his life. He told the newspaper that his heart goes out to the victims.

"My heart goes out to them," Acevedo said in a phone call the Daily News said was arranged by a friend. "I didn't know they died until I saw the news."

The crash killed 21-year-old Nachman and Raizy Glauber. Their baby, who was born prematurely via cesarean section, died Monday.

Acevedo did not say when he was going to police. He was first reaching out to an attorney.
