Melissa Weber (PICTURE): Family Sues NYC Teacher for Sex with Student

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) The family of a 14-year-old boy has sued former New York City teacher Melissa Weber for having sex with their son.

The suit was filed against the 28-year-old social studies teacher and the Department of Education in Queens Supreme Court on Tuesday. It seeks unspecified damages.

Weber received 10 years probation after admitting she had sex with the middle school student last year.

The boy was a student of hers at Middle School/Intermediate School 8 in Jamaica, Queens, according to the New York Daily News.

A cousin, Shunte Weber, told the newspaper that Weber has joined the Air Force where she was training to become a nurse.

"She's in the Air Force," Weber told the paper. "She's doing wonderful."

The family's lawyer, Adam Orlow, said the boy is being treated for psychological wounds.

"I know a lot of people think it's cool for a boy to sleep with his teacher," Orlow told the Daily News. "But the bottom line is that he's going to realize, 'I was used and I was abused.'"
