Marilyn Chambers, Porn Star Created By P&G's Ivory Snow Blunder, Found Dead in Her Home

Marilyn Chambers, the porn star whose career got a rocket boost when it was discovered she was also the model for Procter & Gamble's Ivory Snow detergent, was found dead in her Los Angeles home Sunday night, the LA Times reports. She was 56. Foul play is not suspected. No cause of death was given.

Chambers was the wholesome mom on the early 1970s Ivory Snow box; at about the same time she starred in "Behind the Green Door."

The news will spark a new round of media stories about the P&G/porn link, causing shrugs, eye-rolling and many "no comments" from the Cincinnati packaged goods giant. Here's Mark Kernes, senior editor of Adult Video News:

Chambers' "Behind the Green Door," Kernes said, "was made all the more exotic, I think, for some people because she had been on that Ivory Snow box. So here's the Ivory Snow beauty queen having hard-core interracial sex."
Chambers shot "Green Door" at roughly the same time as P&G unwittingly chose to buy an old photo of Chambers, holding a baby, from a modelling agency in New York. P&G was forced to pull the boxes -- but the publicity made the film huge, and Chambers rich.

Haven't seen "Behind the Green Door"? Here's the "plot," as published (in English-as-a-second-language, apparently) on IMDB.com. It does not involve a pizza delivery guy.
