LulzSec takes on Arizona law enforcement
(CBS) - The hacker group LulzSec has a new target: The Arizona
Department of Public Safety. The group known for hacking the CIA and
U.S. Senate websites made an announcement on Thursday night about new documents released on their website.
Naming the information dump "Chinga La Migra," the group gave details of the files as "hundreds of private intelligence bulletins, training manuals, personal email correspondence, names, phone numbers, addresses and passwords belonging to Arizona law enforcement."
LulzSec's reason for this attack is to protest Arizona's policies on immigration. The group stated, "We are targeting AZDPS specifically because we are against SB1070 and the racial profiling anti-immigrant police state that is Arizona. "
There were many revealing memos included in the files. The blog BoingBoing dissected the documents in-depth. One memo gave instructions on how to prevent people from wiping their confiscated cell phone data remotely:
"Law enforcement seizing iPhones as potential evidence are
recommended to protect the phone from wireless signals as soon as
possible through the use of a faraday bags or some other nickel, copper
and silver plated storage container. The device must be protected from
any wireless connection/radio signal even throughout the forensic
imaging process."
Currently, only one arrest has been made in connection to the LulzSec group.
