(CBS) - The horror! Apple fans will have to wait an extra month for their beloved iPhone 5 (and possibly a lower-end model, the iPhone 4GS).

According to a report by John Paczkowski at All Things D, a source close to Apple said that the smartphone is slated for an October release date. Any reports of a September launch are false.

The buzz began when a rumor began spreading that AT&T stores denied vacation requests in September for an "even blackout."

Guess we'll have to wait until September or October to find out which release date is correct.

Apple has been on the forefront of mobile technology since the release of the original iPhone in June of 2007. Since then, Apple's mobile operating system, iOS, has been a hit with consumers and is widely considered to be a game changer for hand-held devices.

According to their website, more than 200 million of its iOS devices have been sold around the world to people in 90 countries. The figures are said to include the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
