iPad 3 rumors point at March 7 announcement

Apple

(CBS) - New reports are saying March 7 is the date Apple will announce the iPad 3.

According to the website iMore, "sources who have been reliable in the past" tipped off the site about Apple's iPad event. Other rumors were also reiterated by iMore, like 2048x1536 Retina Display, 4G LTE, a quad-core A6 chip and upgraded cameras.

Apple has yet to confirm an event for the iPad 3, but iMore isn't the only site confirming the March 7 date. Jim Dalrymple of The Loop confirmed with a simple "Yep," when asked about the rumor.

The Verge reported the quad-core A6 chip might end up being a dual-core A6 chip, citing source close to the matter. Either way, it will be an upgrade. The iPad 2 uses a dual-core A5 chip, so the hardware will still get an upgrade.

Buzz over the pending launch of Apple's next tablet device is peaking - that's for sure. This week, unconfirmed photos of iPad shells have been reported on sites like 9to5Mac, MacRumors and Repair Labs.
