Hurricane Sandy has descended on the U.S. East Coast, causing tech companies to cancel events amid pre-holiday product launches.

Google has cancelled its Google Nexus event, originally planned for Monday. The company was widely expected to announce new Nexus tablets -- both 7- and 10-inch models. The search giant was also said to unveil its new mobile operating system Android 4.2.

Facebook has also cancelled its event, planned for Thursday. The social network was expected to give updates on its Facebook Gifts.
