How to Organize a Messy Office With QR Codes

If you own the type of business that relies heavily on an organized stock room or warehouse, I'm guessing you're already an expert at inventory management. But if your business doesn't focus primarily on goods and inventory, and you've been ignoring that back room filled with office supplies or computer gear that you plan to organize (someday), I've got a simple solution for you.

You might already be familiar with QR (Quick Response) codes -- those blocky little squares (see image on the right) that stores post in their windows to offer the geekiest customers special deals they can redeem by swiping the codes with their smartphones. Now Boxmeup has come up with an app that let's you organize boxes in your office using QR codes you can print yourself.

The service is free; just create an account and start using it. Boxmeup's website offers a lightweight database in which you create a virtual "container," and specify its contents. You can print a QR code for each container and affix it to the appropriate physical box in your storage room.

Want to find something you've got in storage? Surf over to the Boxmeup site and search for the item; you'll instantly see the container in which the item resides. You can also use your smartphone to scan QR codes to identify boxes and their contents.

Boxmeup is very easy to use, and delivers a crazy-simple inventory management tool for any business that needs to take control of a cluttered back room.
