Trump tweets about the future of his businesses
President-elect Donald Trump said late Monday that he would be leaving his businesses before his inauguration next month, that his two sons would manage them while he serves in the White House and that there will be “no new deals” during that time.
Mr. Trump made the announcement in a series of tweets after he abruptly decided Monday to postpone a planned announcement this week regarding how he would separate from his business empire.
The president-elect also tweeted that he would hold a press conference “in the near future” to talk about his business, Cabinet choices and other issues.
He has not held a press conference since before the election. In November, Mr. Trump tweeted that he would leave his business to avoid conflicts of interest, but told The New York Times last month that he wasn’t worried about facing that problem.
“The law’s totally on my side, the president can’t have a conflict of interest,” Mr. Trump told the Times in a meeting last month. “In theory I could run my business perfectly and then run the country perfectly. There’s never been a case like this.”
