Apple iPod nano recall
(CBS) - Apple is recalling first generation iPod nanos due to a battery that might pose a safety risk. The company began notifying customers today with a brief email explaining the problem.

Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006.This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages.
Apple instructed customers to proceed to a support page, where they can confirm if their model is eligible for the recall. If you're not sure what generation your iPod nano is, it has a plastic front and metal back. The original iPod nano only came in two colors - black or white.
It's not clear if customers will receive the same version of their original iPod nano or if they are required to send in their old iPods. We reached out to Apple, but have yet to get a response.
