Vegas cop who allegedly attacked prostitute sentenced

LAS VEGAS -- A suspended Las Vegas police detective has been sentenced to probation on a reduced charge in a plea deal that avoids trial in a case alleging that he attacked and injured a prostitute trying to get his money back.

Defense attorney Joshua Tomsheck said Thursday that Michael John Kitchen's gross misdemeanor conviction on a theft charge could be further reduced to a simple misdemeanor battery if he completes court-ordered requirements including a sexual awareness class.

Felony battery, attempted sexual assault and robbery charges were dropped.

The 35-year-old Kitchen was arrested in January after a woman who told police she's a prostitute said he attacked her and took money he had already paid when she told him sex would cost another $150.

Kitchen told police he met the woman for a massage.
