Texas assistant principal accused of having sex with student during prom event
(CBS/KHOU) HOUSTON - A former assistant principal accused of having sex with a female student appeared in court Wednesday, where a judge warned him to stay away from the alleged victim.
Mark West, 30, who was an administrator at Spring High School in Harris County, Texas, was told he would face 180 days in jail if he refused to comply with the order, CBS affiliate KHOU reports.
West is charged with an improper relationship with a student while he was an assistant principal at Spring High School. Court documents say the former student claims she and West had sex in his office during a prom event in May 2012, CBS Houston reports.
West's lawyer says his client is innocent, KHOU reports.
"I can tell you this, speaking with his family, looking at his background as an educator, he is innocent and he cares about the kids. That's it," Charles Johnson Jr. reportedly said.
West was released on bond and will be back in court on April 18. He resigned last Friday.
