Synchronization of metronomes is a cool scientific trick

(CBS) - If you play piano or almost any musical instrument, you're probably very familiar with a metronome (and you're probably still familiar with one even if you don't play an instrument).

The very cool video above asks and answers the following question: If you start five metronomes at different intervals, how can you synchronize them to tick at the same time? Check it out.

It's interesting to see that by 43 seconds, they are all perfectly timed.  It seems that by positioning them on a "rolling axis" the slight movement ends up syncing them to the same intervals.  And it just goes to show that you can learn something new every day. Let's give three cheers for science!
