According to CBS DFW, police say Juan Enrique Torres, 41, was booked into jail, after providing a written confession in the slaying of Surie Baeza.

The station reports that police say Torres shares a child with Surie's mother and that the two lived together for several years.

Torres had access to the Baesa home in Lake Rockwall Estates, The Dallas Morning News reports.

According to the paper, an autopsy revealed that the teen died of stab wounds to her torso, and that she tried to defend herself from her attacker. Rockwell police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Welch said Torres killed the girl after an argument in the home escalated.

CBS DFW reports that investigators say the girl was not feeling well and had stayed home from school that day. She reportedly sent a text message around 2 p.m. and was killed between that time and 4:30 p.m. Welch said Surie's mother went to wake her up for dinner, but found her unresposive on the floor in a pool of her own blood.

"She was just one of the sweetest people I've ever met. It was just one of those things where you would never expect it to happen to her of all people," Surie's friend David Harvey told DFW.
