Prince Charles visits "Doctor Who" set

Prince Charles stepped inside the Tardis and uttered the Daleks' famous catchphrase during a visit to the "Doctor Who" set on Wednesday.

Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, stopped by BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, Wales, and met members of the show's cast -- including the current Time Lord actor, Matt Smith (who is leaving the show later this year).

The prince got to grip the Tardis' controls as his wife pulled a lever to activate it, according to the Guardian, while Smith and co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman watched. Charles also lent his voice to one of the Daleks, using a voice modulator to yell "Exterminate!"

"Doctor Who" lead writer Stephen Moffat said, "I haven't thought about how I could weave a meeting between the Doctor and the royal family. But Prince Charles' attempt at being a Dalek was great. There would be a part in the show for him if he wanted it."

Smith remarked, "He's got the makings of a future Doctor!"

"He took quite a lot of interest in the Tardis's controls and asked a lot of questions about it," the actor added, per the Guardian. "He told me and Jenna that he'd been a big fan of the show since he was 15 -- which we didn't know."

The prince and duchess, who are on their annual summer tour of Wales, visited the studio to celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Doctor Who." The show will mark the milestone with a special episode in November.
