Pot Luck? Teen who survived fall may have consumed edibles

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Police in Fort Collins, Colorado are investigating whether edible marijuana may have led a teenager to jump out of a third-story window.

He doesn't remember much about it.

According to CBS Denver, officers were called to an apartment complex near Colorado State University on April 14, and found 19-year-old Austin Essig injured on the ground.

A neighbor, a young man named Francis Labarbera, told the station he heard a window shatter, then rushed outside to see what had happened.

"We heard a loud crash and I thought...that someone was breaking into vehicles," Labarbera said.

He says Essig admitted he was high.

"He didn't know what he was doing. He said that he ate four edibles and had no idea that he even jumped out a window and didn't even know where he was at," Labarbera told CBS Denver.

Essig's injuries are described only as non-life-threatening.
