Not So Fast: Bernie's Not Dying, Says Prison

(AP / CBS)
NEW YORK (CBS) The reports of Bernard L. Madoff's illness have been greatly exaggerated – at least that's the statement released by the Federal Bureau of Prisons on Monday. The statement was made in response to an earlier report by the New York Post that cited unidentified sources as saying that Madoff was taking "about 20 pills a day."

Traci Billingsley, Chief Public Information Officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons released the following statement:

"While the NY Post story is full of inaccuracies, and we can't specifically address all of them, we can tell you that Bernie Madoff is not terminally ill, and has not been diagnosed with cancer."

Madoff is the architect of the largest Ponzi scheme in history, he plead guilty in March and is currently serving a 150 year sentence at the federal facility in Butner, NC.
