North Carolina teacher Kristina Ngum arrested for sexual activity with student

(CBS) CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Records show a 43-year-old North Carolina high school teacher accused of sexual activity with a student has been arrested twice before, CBS Charlotte reports.

Kristina Ngum, a teacher at Myers Park High School, reportedly turned herself in to authorities at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

Ngum's husband reportedly told The Charlotte Observer that his wife was giving the male student a ride, when she was stopped by police. Police conducted the stop allegedly found a drug on the student, who was arrested.

According to the newspaper, police say they began investigating Ngum after the student's arrest. Detectives say the alleged sexual activity took place at a location off-campus, but did not say when the activity occurred.

According to Mecklenburg County public records, Ngum was previously arrested in July 2011 for false pretense and misdemeanor larceny, CBS Charlotte reports. Additionally, county records show that Ngum was charged with a DWI in 2008.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District reportedly initiates extensive background checks before hiring teachers. It is not known at this time if CMS was aware of Ngum's previous arrests, or where or when the incident took place.
