Minnesota man accused of squirting his blood at nurses
MINNEAPOLIS -- Police say a Minnesota man used a syringe to squirt his own blood on nurses, reports CBS Minnesota.
Keagan Lee Johnson-Lloyd has been charged with three counts of terroristic threats and one count of false imprisonment in connection with the May 17 incident. The incident occurred at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn., in the fifth floor secure unit, which is where patients with mental illness and chemical dependency stay.
Hospital staff told police that they believe a visitor gave Johnson-Lloyd a syringe filled with heroin.
After the guest left, Johnson-Lloyd's conduct became erratic, according to hospital staff, and he tried to leave the secured floor, according to a police complaint. As elevator doors opened onto the floor, Johnson-Lloyd allegedly entered the elevator and blocked a visitor from leaving it.
CBS Minnesota reports that after some time, the woman was able to distract Johnson-Lloyd and escape.
He then allegedly used the syringe to squirt his blood at unknown number of nurses, making contact with some on the face and body. One nurse got blood in his eyes, according to the complaint.
"Many of the nurses had retreated to a safety area behind protective glass but the defendant kept reloading the syringe from his own body and shooting his blood at them through the slight, open gaps in the glass used for communication," the complaint said. "The nurses were worried about their health from the exposed blood given the defendant's history as noted in his medical records."
