McCain "Fine Gold" and a Special Guest on Saturday Night Live

(CBS)

From CBS News' John Bentley:

(NEW YORK) – The real John McCain and the fake Sarah Palin – played by Tina Fey – opened up Saturday Night Live tonight with an infomercial of their own, poking fun at Barack Obama's infomercial last week. McCain explained that he was truly a maverick – "a Republican without money" – so he and Palin had to run their infomercial on QVC, instead of major networks, and sell products as well.

McCain offered up some "fine gold" (a play on the McCain-Feingold bill he sponsored), which was shown off by his wife, Cindy. Fey surreptitiously hawked some "Palin 20212" t-shirts, telling the audience that if she wasn't going to White House, she was running in four years or she was going to be the "white Oprah."

McCain also tried to sell a set of plates commemorating the 10 town hall meetings between him and Obama (blank plates, since those didn't happen) and a set of John McCain pork knives (to, you know, cut out the pork), before giving the show's signature line, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"
