McCain Cancels Trip to Louisiana, Heads to Ohio to Campaign with Lance Armstrong

(CBS)

From CBS News' John Bentley:

(COLUMBUS, OHIO) – John McCain was supposed to be spending his day in the Big Easy, meeting with Louisiana governor (and possible running mate) Bobby Jindal, as well as visiting an offshore oil rig to show his support for offshore oil exploration. But tropical storm Dolly has forced a change in plans. "The meeting with Governor Jindal has been postponed and we are cancelling the trip to the rig due to weather," said Kimmie Lipscomb, a McCain spokesman.

Instead, McCain arrived in Ohio last night where he will participate in a town hall meeting tonight with cycling great Lance Armstrong. Both are cancer survivors, and they will be participating in the LIVESTRONG Summit held at Ohio State University today.

"The work being done by the Lance Armstrong Foundation is invaluable in bringing people together to fight cancer," said McCain, who is a skin cancer survivor. "I am proud to address the second LIVESTRONG Summit that will advance a critical dialogue in how we can better support the heroic work of those striving to find a cure for cancer."

Barack Obama was also invited to the summit, but declined because of his overseas trip.
