Matthew Leone, Madina Lake Bassist, Hospitalized After Attack, Say Reports

CHICAGO (CBS) The bassist for the band Madina Lake was badly injured and remains hospitalized after he was assaulted for reportedly intervening when he spotted a woman allegedly being beaten by her husband on a Chicago street.

Although there are conflicting reports, The Observer says that Matthew Leone remains in critical condition after he was brutalized and left unconscious by the man.

The bassist's identical twin brother, Nathan Leone, alerted fans on his blog that his brother was walking to meet a friend for a drink and came across the man who was severely beating his wife, reports The Observer.

"Being the most amazing, strong, heroic and incredible person I know...even though the guy was twice his size, Matthew intervened. He managed to subdue this guy for a second and, since his wife was beat up, called the cops...as he did so the guy jumped him from behind and beat him. This guy did things I can't even type."

According to Matthew's brother, the bassist had to have a third of his skull removed.

"We don't know enough details yet about how that will develop. He acted as a hero (as he always would in any of these situations) and is paying a horrific price."

Madina Lake was formed in Chicago in 2005 by the Leone twins and two other band members, reports allmusic.com.

Matthew and Nathan had their first taste of media recognition after they appeared together on the television series Fear Factor. They used the money they earned to pay for a demo for their new band, reports allmusic.com.

After several months of touring the United States, the band began touring in the U.K. as the opening act for Paramore and gained a sizable following in England, Scotland, and Wales, says allmusic.com
