Matt Bomer reacts to "Fifty Shades of Grey" petition

Matt Bomer as Christian Grey?

Some fans had hoped the "White Collar" star would take on the male lead role in the movie version of "Fifty Shades of Grey" after hearing that "Sons of Anarchy" actor Charlie Hunnam had been cast. An online petition gained traction this week -- asking producers to replace Hunnam with Bomer. The petition -- with its 50,000-plus signatures -- also requested that Alexis Bledel to replace Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele in the film, due out next summer.

So when ETonline caught up with Bomer this week, they asked what he thought about the petition. "I'm so grateful for the fans and touched," he said. "I'm looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota."

The Change.org petition explains: "Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE And I read the whole trilogy and I can assure that Matt is the perfect actor for this movie and Alexis too. So please PLEASE, all of the GREYsessed and Bomerettes in the world NEED those actors. They always will be for us the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. WE CAN DO ANYTHING GUYS, ANYTHING."

Bomer will return in "White Collar" on Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. on USA.
