Man Vs Machine Race To Be Settled On 'Jeopardy!'
NEW YORK (AP) - Will the computer reign supreme?
Or will one of his flesh-and-blood rivals strike a blow for humanity with an upset "Jeopardy!" win on Wednesday?
The three-day Man vs. Machine tournament left off Tuesday with a solid win for Watson, the IBM supercomputer, in the first of the series' two games. Watson (named for IBM founder Thomas J. Watson) triumphed with $35,734. Human opponents Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings finished far behind with $10,400 and $4,800, respectively.
Game 2 will air Wednesday, with the overall winner collecting $1 million - and incalculable bragging rights. (Check local listings for the syndicated game show.)
The bouts were taped at the IBM research center in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., last month.
