CBS News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Lara Logan appeared on Comedy Central's "Colbert Report" last night to discuss the situation faced by the United States in Afghanistan. Here's how the conversation between host Stephen Colbert and Logan opened:

Colbert: "You have got a three-part series on CBS News right now called "Afghanistan: The Road Ahead." What is the road ahead? Do we buy them a ring? Or do we start seeing other countries?"

Logan: "Well we need to be seeing other countries as well. I fully recommend infidelity at this point. Because Al Qaeda is all over the world."

Quipped Colbert: "OK, I just wanted to make sure you were talking about countries."

Later, Logan says that the president's legitimate desire to get things right in Afghanistan has caused frustration because it has meant a delay in establishing a clear plan moving forward.

"This time that he's taking is very frightening, especially to the soldiers on the ground," she said.
"Because in a way, we're lost, right now. And what appears to be a wavering in US resolve is the smell of victory to Al Qaeda and the Taliban."
