"Iron Man 3" trailer debuts online

The first full-length trailer for "Iron Man 3" has arrived, and it shows a more serious side of Tony Stark.

As the video begins, a battered Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) falls to the snow-covered ground in his Iron Man suit, pulling off the mask to reveal his bloodied face.

"I've got a lot of apologies to make," he says in a voice-over.

"Nothing's been the same since New York," he continues, referring to the events from "The Avengers." "You experience things, and then they're over. I can't sleep, and when I do, I have nightmares."

We then see Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) being awakened by the Iron Man suit hovering over her -- while Stark is sleeping beside her in bed.

What comes next is total destruction. First, Stark's Iron Man suits explode one by one. Then, helicopters fire blasts at his seaside mansion, which tumbles down a cliff into the water. A suited-up Stark is seen going under with the wreckage.

There's also a glimpse of Ben Kingsley as the villain known as The Mandarin, who is heard in voice-over delivering an ominous message.

"Ladies, children, sheep," he says. "Some people call me a terrorist. I consider myself a teacher. Lesson No. 1: Heroes. There is no such thing."

Directed by Shane Black, the third installment in the "Iron Man" franchise arrives in U.S. theaters on May 3.
