OAKLAND, Calif. (CBS/AP) Hyman Taylor Jr., a 23-year-old former University of San Francisco basketball player, was shot and killed outside an IKEA furniture store near Oakland.

Police say Taylor was fatally shot and a 27-year-old San Francisco man was wounded about 7:35 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the IKEA in Emeryville.

Police say they have no motive for the shootings and no arrests have been made.

While the building is located in Emeryville, Oakland police are investigating because the parking lot is within the city limits.

Taylor, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was a center who last played at USF during the 2008-09 basketball season. He was suspended late into the campaign and did not play again.

He was majoring in sociology, according to the USF athletic department's website.

In a statement Wednesday obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, coach Rex Walters said, "Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones. It is difficult to accept that someone we have worked with and got to know really well is no longer with us. "
