Horse gallops into Steamboat Springs Safeway, rider gets tased

It's a man on a horse, paying for an item at the Safeway in Steamboat Springs, Colo., Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 CBS Denver

(CBS DENVER) STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - Stop me if you've heard this one before...

A man rides into a bar, on a horse.

I didn't think so.

Actually, three people went on a wild ride in Steamboat Springs over the weekend, galloping their horses to several bars, a Starbucks and a grocery store, according to CBS Denver.

All three rode into a Safeway grocery at about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, scaring shoppers and clerks.

The Steamboat Pilot reported that police used a stun gun and arrested rider Michael Miller because he allegedly ignored police orders. According to the newspaper, the ride began more than 10 hours earlier atop Emerald Mountain.

"I had a great ride right up until the very end," Miller, 44, told the paperan hour and a half after he was released on a $750 bond from the Routt County Jail.

Miller faces charges including suspicion of harassment, disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest. Police said he was involved in a fight at a pub about an hour earlier, CBS Denver reported.

Kenneth Recker and Roxanne Lange, of Clark, were the other riders, but they were not arrested. According to the Steamboat Pilot the trio - and their equine companions - had visited several bars before going to Starbucks and then Safeway for a snack.

"I came out and saw three huge horses standing in front of our Starbucks counter, and one of the riders was trying to buy a bag of chips," Jackson told the Pilot. "These were three huge horses, not small horses. I looked at the riders and I told them 'You have got to go. This violates every policy we have.' "

It's not clear yet what inspired the horsemen, and horsewoman, to ride through Steamboat Springs.

(Trying to warn the British, maybe?)
