Clooney's illness became known earlier this week after .Morgan tweeted about it and posted a clip on his web site.

The 49-year-old actor's publicist, Stan Rosenfield, says it was the actor's second bout with the disease. The rep also told People magazine that this illustrates how with proper medication, even a dreaded disease like malaria needn't be a death sentence.

Clooney, who has long lobbied for aid to Afrtca, was in Sudan in early January to monitor the pivotal independence elections and prevent a potential genocide.

The Oscar winner is set to discuss the disease and his work in Africa when he appears with his father, Nick Clooney, on Piers Morgan's new CNN show.

Malaria, according to the Centers for Disease Control, is a serious, sometimes fatal disease contracted by a mosquito bite. Sufferers experience chills, aches and other flu-like symptoms.
