AP

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (CBS/AP) Two men from Zimbabwe and one from Spain were convicted and sentenced within 48 hours of having stolen laptop computers, camera equipment, cell phones and money from journalists in South Africa.

The three journalists - one from Spain and two from Portugal - were robbed in a settlement northwest of Johannesburg. One of the journalists was robbed at gunpoint. It took less than 24 hours to apprehend the three suspects.

"Now this is what we have been echoing: that we will act with swiftness on any criminality," said South African Minister of Police Nathi Mthetwa in a statement after the three men were arrested.

Two of the men convicted now face 15 years in jail for armed robbery; the third was sentenced to four years for possession of stolen property.
