BARTONVILLE, Ill. (CBS/AP) An Illinois man asked for "extra nuts" before allegedly throwing a dead squirrel into the drive-thru window of a fast food restaurant.

Bartonville police said it took them several days after the Dec. 3 incident to track down the accused squirrel-tosser, 26-year-old Christopher Thompson.

Thompson told officers that a friend left the squirrel on the dashboard of his white SUV, but instead of disposing of it he kept the dead animal until he pulled into the drive-thru lane of a Hardee's in Bartonville.

The Peoria Journal Star says the female attendant told police Thompson pretended as if the squirrel was still alive by petting it and then asking for "extra nuts" to feed it. When she told Thompson that she didn't think the squirrel was real, he allegedly tossed it through the window at her and sped off.

Frankly the whole story sounds nuts, doesn't it?

Thompson is now facing misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges.

Thompson later told police that it was a "stupid prank," according to the criminal complaint obtained by The Smoking Gun.
