Trump urges profiling to stop terrorists from entering U.S.
Terror is again front and center on the campaign trail, as the two candidates continued their debate over plans to defeat ISIS. Donald Trump argued the U.S. needs to start profiling to stop terrorists from entering the country, while Hillary Clinton said her opponent’s language is what’s inspiring the terror group. Both candidates said ISIS, the terror group at the center of this anxiety-ridden debate, wants the other nominee elected.
After a weekend of
terror attacks, Trump said the country must use profiling techniques,
but he was at a loss to explain the target or methods, reports CBS News correspondent Major Garrett.
“Honestly, whatever it is, but I’m not using the term Muslim. I’m saying
you’re going to have to profile. We’re going to have to start profiling,” Trump
said on “The O’Reilly Factor.”
In Florida, Trump said the screening process must consider an applicant’s world view.
“You can’t have vetting if you don’t look at ideology,” Trump said in Estero, Florida.
The wounded suspect in the latest New York area attacks, Ahmad Kahn Rahami, traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Rahami is a naturalized U.S. citizen with access to legal rights. That appeared to irk Trump.
“His case will go through the various court systems for years and in the end, people will forget and his punishment will not be what it once would have been. What a sad situation,” Trump said.
Trump again blamed Clinton for the rise of ISIS, speculating the terror group is secretly pulling for her.
“They want her so badly to be your president, you have no idea,” Trump said.
Citing intelligence assessments linking Trump statements to ISIS recruitment, Clinton turned the charge against Trump.
“A lot of the rhetoric we’ve heard from Donald Trump has been seized on by terrorists, in particular ISIS,” Clinton said.
Trump also said news that more than 800 individuals with deportation orders were mistakenly granted citizenship prove his claims that the current system must be strengthened.
“These are people that were supposed to be deported and they were given full citizenship. They made a mistake,” Trump said.
Last night, Trump’s eldest son tweeted a photo comparing a bowl of Skittles to the current Syrian refugee program that read: “If I told you just three would kill you, would you take a handful?”
